What does single protein mean?
Single protein means that a snack or chew consists of exactly one animal species. A horse meat bar is then 100 % horse, a lamb dog sausage only lamb. Many products in the shops say "beef" on the front, but at the back of the ingredient list you find poultry meal, pork rind or "animal by-products". That is exactly what allergic dogs cannot tolerate.
Who is single protein important for?
- Dogs with a food allergy: only with single protein do you know what your dog is getting and can rule out triggers safely.
- Dogs on an elimination diet: for 6 to 8 weeks there is only one protein source. Every snack with a hidden second species makes the diet worthless.
- Dogs with sensitive stomachs: fewer ingredients, fewer irritants.
- Everyone else: single protein snacks are simply more honest. What it says on the label is what is inside.
Which protein source for my dog?
With an allergy the rule is: choose a species the dog has never eaten. For most dogs that is horse, fish, goat or game. Chicken and beef are the most common triggers because they are in almost every food. Duck and lamb sit in between.
Are all products here grain free?
Yes. Single protein for us means: one animal species and otherwise only what is needed for drying or, with sausage, for binding (salt, natural casing). No grain, no sugar, no preservatives, no flavourings.
