A puppy chews. On the table edge, on the carpet, on your shoes, and from teething onwards especially intensely because the gums itch. You want to give them something of their own, you stand in the shop and read grain, sugar, flavourings and "animal by-products" without naming the animal species on every second pack. For a dog whose digestion is only just settling, that is not a good starting point.

The updog puppy chew sticks consist of a single ingredient: 100 % lamb. Gently dried and cut especially narrow, much thinner than our normal lamb chew sticks, so that even a small mouth with milk teeth really gets something out of them.

❓ Frequently asked questions

From what age can I give the sticks?
It makes sense to start from teething, in other words from about the fourth month of life. Before that, milk teeth and jaw are still very sensitive. As with all chews: only under supervision and always offer fresh water alongside.

What distinguishes them from the normal updog lamb chew sticks?
The material is identical, 100 % lamb, same drying. The difference is in the calibre: the puppy version is cut much narrower and is therefore easier to work on. So it is not a differently composed puppy food but the same product in a puppy friendly thickness.

Do the sticks replace puppy food?
No, expressly not. It is a single ingredient feed and meant as a snack. Puppies have a precisely balanced need for calcium, phosphorus and energy, which the complete food covers. Count the sticks towards the daily ration and reduce the main food accordingly.

30 % crude fat, is that not a lot for a puppy?
Lamb is naturally richer in fat than fish, for example. That is why the sticks are a question of portion, not a permanent food: for a puppy half to one stick a day is perfectly enough. With sensitive digestion or fat reduction on veterinary advice, please talk to your practice first.

How long does such a stick keep a dog busy?
For a puppy typically a few minutes, much shorter than a thick chew thanks to the narrow calibre. They are not meant as a long lasting occupation but as a small chewing session in between.

Why do the sticks look different?
Because it is a natural product. Length, thickness and colour vary from stick to stick, some are light amber, some darker. That is normal variation in drying and not a difference in quality.

Do the sticks smell strongly?
Less than fish or tripe, but it is dried meat, it is not entirely odourless. The zipper keeps the smell well inside the pack.

How do I best store them?
Cool and dry, reseal the pack after taking a piece out. The best before date is stamped on the back.
