Which dogs are vegetarian snacks useful for?
- Dogs with a meat allergy: once chicken, beef, lamb, horse and fish have all been ruled out, vegetarian is what remains as a safe reward.
- Dogs on a diet: chew wood and chew root have no calories, coconut sticks and cheese chews only a few.
- For variety: no dog has to live vegetarian, but a cheese chew now and then does no harm.
What is there without meat?
- Cheese chews: rock hard cheese bones from the Himalayas, low in lactose, last for hours.
- Coconut sticks: 100 percent coconut, rich in fibre, crunchy, good for the teeth.
- Chew wood and chew root: coffee wood, olive wood, ebony, tree heath. Keeping busy without calories.
- Vegetarian soft snacks and crackers: with tapioca, pumpkin, apple and lentils, as training treats.
- Vegetarian dental sticks: for dental care, without animal protein.
Is vegetarian healthy for dogs?
As a snack, yes. As a main food that is a question for your vet, because dogs need animal protein. With snacks what matters most is what is not in them: no sugar, no grain as filler, no additives. That applies to everything in this category.
Vegetarian and allergies
Vegetarian does not mean allergy free. Milk protein in cheese chews or peanut in dental sticks can be triggers too, even if that is rare. With a known milk protein allergy better go for coconut or wood.
